Our chickens
Nine standard breeds, two game fowl lines, and two Bourbon Red turkeys. Every bird photographed is a bird that lives here.
All poultry on the farm are treated for mites and internal parasites on a regular schedule. If you bring birds home from us, ask about our protocol — we're happy to share it.
Please note: we do NOT vent sex chickens. Chicks from our hatching eggs grow out unsexed — plan for roosters.
Standard breeds
Cochin
Big, round, fluffy, and sweet-tempered. Chinese in origin, on the Livestock Conservancy list.

Silkie
Black-skinned, five-toed, and feathered like a dandelion. The broodiest hens on the farm — they hatch everybody's eggs.
Sultan
Turkish ornamental — crest, muffs, beard, feathered feet, the full kit. Gentle and odd. Hatching eggs available.

Leghorn
The egg-laying machine. Flighty, productive, and ancient — one of the original Mediterranean layers.
Jersey Giant
The largest chicken breed in the world. Slow to mature, worth the wait. Black and calm.

The classic American farm chicken. Plymouth Rock, barred pattern, dependable as a fence post.
Polish
Crested, quirky, and prone to walking into things they can't see through the feathers. We trim crests around the eyes.

Exactly what it sounds like. Heat-tolerant, surprisingly hardy, and a conversation piece at every farm visit.

Bourbon Red turkeys
We keep two Bourbon Reds — a heritage breed on the Livestock Conservancy's list, and one of the most beautiful turkeys ever developed in this country. Chestnut-red plumage with white flight and tail feathers. Ours are named, opinionated, and in charge of the pasture.
